- Sikkim is a multilingual state. Sikkim has 11 official languages. NOT 1 NOT 2 BUT 11. The main official languages of the state are English, Nepali, Sikkimese and Lepcha. Additional official languages includes Gurung, Limbu, Hindi, Magar, Mukhia, Newari, Rai, Sherpa and Tamang for the purpose of preservation of culture and tradition in the state.
- Sikkim is India's first organic state with around 75,000 hectares of agricultural land dedicated to organic farming.
- Sikkim accounts for the largest share of cardamom production in India, and is the world's second largest producer of the spice after Guatemala.
The majority of Sikkim's residents are of Nepali ethnic origin.
Sikkim is India's least populated states with the population of 610,577 inhabitants according to the 2011 census. The Varsey Rhododendron Sanctuary Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary occupies 104 km2 in the Singalila Range in western Sikkim. It borders on Nepal to the west, and on the state of West Bengal to the south across the Rambong Khola stream. The rhododendrons bloom during March and April.
